A programme was organized to celebrate 89th Foundation of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on 17th July 2017 at ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA). Ms Swapna Sundar, IP Strategist & Patent Agent and CEO, IP DOME Strategy Advisors Pvt Ltd., Chennai was the chief guest of the programme, who gave a presentation on ‘”Recent developments in IPR and science policy issues”. Ms.Swapna Sundar in her address focused on the key issues in relation with patent filing, various forms of patents and its applicability, and global scenario on policies and technical issues on patenting etc. India is far behind in the total number of patents applied for as compared to many other countries in the world, which is mainly due to technical complications in filing the patents, copyrights, geographical indications, trademarks etc., which is relatively easier in other countries. She further emphasized that the practice of filing provisional patent applications should be promoted in scientific organisations. Following to that, Scientists of ICAR-CIBA had an interaction and clarified their queries on IPR on patent and filing.

Dr.T.Ravisankar, Principal Scientist and In charge, Institute Technology Management & Agricultural Business Incubator Unit gave the welcome address earlier. Dr.C.V.Sairam, Principal Scientist and Acting SIC, SSD spoke about the relevance of patenting in the era of commercialization of technologies generated by ICAR institutes and opportunities in income generation. Dr.P.K.Patil, Co-PI, ITM & ABI Unit proposed the vote of thanks.
