ICAR-CIBA, is working on solid state fermentation technology for improving the nutritional quality of plant protein sources to reduce the fishmeal inclusion level in the shrimp feed. The Institute has procured a pilot scale solid state fermentor under the DBT funded project recently. Based on the uniqueness of the technology and the facility, M/s. Poseidon Biotech, Chennai has expressed to explore the possibility of this technology to produce probiotic bacteria for aquaculture purpose. In this regard, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai has signed Memorandum of Understanding with M/s. Poseidon Biotech, Chennai for utilizing the Solid State Fermentation Facility for production of Probiotic Bacterial Biomass on 17th November 2022. Dr. Kuldeep K. Lal, Director, CIBA has mentioned that this MoU paves the way for better joint collaborative research with Private entrepreneurs in the frontier areas to address the issues faced by the farming community by developing cost effective probiotics and feeds. Mr. Muthukarappan, CEO of M/s. Poseidon Biotech has said they are in the field of production and marketing of aquatic probiotics for the last thirty years and they are producing probiotics through liquid fermentation. He mentioned that with this MoU they are planning to diversify the probiotics production by solid state fermentation also.
