Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, and Aditya Fish hatcheries (AFH), Kakinada signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) for knowledge partnership at, Chennai-CIBA HQ on 11th December 2014. The objective of this MoU is to facilitate sharing of knowledge, resources and expertise between CIBA and AFH for breeding milkfish in captivity, so as to close the life cycle.
Aditya Fish hatcheries (AFH), Konapapapeta Village, Kothapalle Mandal, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh is a private finfish hatchery interested in milkfish breeding and culture, and its popularisation. AFH has built milkfish broodstock over the last six years and has created a holding facility at Kakinada. Considering the expertise of CIBA in closing the life cycle of seabass and farming, followed by the technology development and transfer during the last decade, AFH has approached CIBA for fostering partnership in finfish breeding technology and trained scientific manpower, for jointly working on the challenge of making milk fish breeding in captivity to achieve the hatchery production of chanos fingerlings. CIBA’s expertise in the area of fish nutrition, fish health, Genetics and social science also would be a part of this knowledge partnership, to achieve the objectives of the MOU.
Dr K.K.Vijayan, Director, CIBA and Dr Arun Padiyar, AFH signed the MoU. Dr.T. Ravisankar, Scientist-In charge, Institute Technology Management – Business Planning and Development Unit, Dr.M.Natarajan, Scientist-In charge, Fish Culture Division, members of the collaborating team, Dr.M. Kailasam, Dr Aritra Bera, Ms Babita, Dr K. Ambasankar, Dr S.V. Alavandi were also present on the occasion.
