ICAR-CIBA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s. Billion Aqua INC, Hyderabad on 20.01.2023 for the transfer of seabass (Lates calcarifer) seed production technology. Technology support under this MoU covers development of seabass broodstock, technical demonstration of maturation and spawning, larval rearing and seed production. While signing the MoU Dr. Kuldeep K. Lal, Director, CIBA has emphasized the importance of species diversification and farming of finfish species such as seabass, for the sustainable development of brackishwater aquaculture in the country. He further briefed that CIBA has developed the complete technology package for seabass farming covering controlled seed production, feed processing and health management of fish seed with a vaccine and with the support of stakeholders and state fisheries departments the technology can be up-scaled. Mr. Praveen Pavuluri, Executive Director, who signed the MoU for Billion Aqua INC, Hyderabad added that though their primary business is in logistics they find lot of opportunities for seabass aquaculture in India wherein production and supply of quality seed will have more business prospects.
