ICAR-CIBA signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s. Sumantrak Specialties, Mumbai to evaluate the efficiency of frozen zooplankton product in larval and nursery rearing systems of Penaeid shrimps on 20th December 2022.
Dr. Kuldeep K Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA highlighted that copepods from the temperate regions have higher PUFA and cost effective which ultimately result in quality shrimp seed. He underlined that CIBA’s robust technology package for shrimp nursery and the inclusion of zooplanktons with it would further enhance the technical efficiency.
Dr. A. Panigrahi, Principal Scientist and team leader highlighted the novelty of the technology for sustainable aquaculture as the nursery technology developed by CIBA is becoming very popular among the shrimp farmers for ensuring better early survival, health, compensatory growth and in turn higher productivity. The evaluation of this natural copepod-based product will facilitate its use as a complete feed in nursery stages for marine shrimp/fish larvae as well as brood stock shrimp feed.
Sri Sumeet Agrawal, Chief Executive Officer, M/s.Sumantrak Specialties described that Sea-frozen product is a homogenous red biomass and is free of chemical or artificial preservatives. He also stressed that developing quality and cost-effective product is safer and eco-friendly.
This event was coordinated Dr. P. K. Patil, Principal Scientist & SIC-ITMU unit of ICAR-CIBA.
