ICAR-CIBA conducted a skill development training programme on “Brackishwater Aquaculture technologies” for the fisherwomen from Kalpakkam, Chengalpattu district and Marakkanam, Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu at Muttukadu Experimental Station (MES) of ICAR-CIBA on 7th July 2022. The programme was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence. Twenty beneficiaries were trained to develop their handling skills on fish and shrimp nursery/grow-out rearing and feed technology developed by ICAR-CIBA. Dr. M. Kailasam, Principal Scientist & SIC, Fish Culture Division explained the breeding techniques and culture activities of shellfish and finfishes. Dr. Akshaya Panigrahi, Principal Scientist, Crustacean Culture Division (CCD) explained on shrimp and crab farming. Shri. K.P. Sandeep, Scientist-in-Charge, MES gave a brief introduction about the MES activities and feed technologies developed by the institute. As part of the green environment initiative, the trainees planted tree saplings in the campus. The trainees also visited shrimp hatchery, finfish hatchery and feed mill facilities and acquainted knowledge on the concerned subjects. Dr. R. Geetha, Senior Scientist, Social Sciences Division (SSD), coordinator of the programme, briefed the societal development programmes and schemes undertaken by the institute for the upliftment of the socio economic status of aqua farmers and fishers.
