Fish workers Welfare Federation of India (FISHFED) working on skill development, self-reliance and livelihood development of fish workers signed MoU with ICAR-CIBA on 7th May, 2022 for transfer and demonstration of brackishwater aquaculture technologies, viz., fish waste to wealth, brackishwater finfish cage culture, integrated fish farming, finfish and shrimp nursery, grow-out farming, crab farming, feed formulation and processing, etc for the livelihood up-liftment of fish workers across the country.

The MoU was signed by Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA and Mr. Jai Patil, President, FISHFED to cover transfer of technologies for livelihood improvement and welfare of fish workers of India through capacity building and consultancy services to evaluate the projects implemented by FISHFED.

Dr. Jithendran highlighted role of technologies in livelihood development of coastal fish farmers, while Mr. Patil, briefed the activities of FISHFED such as skill development, creation of employment and livelihoods for fish workers through various government and private organizations. He also appreciated CIBA’s initiative in extending partnership with federations, and expressed his confidence in bringing positive outcomes through this collaboration, which would contribute significantly for the benefit of fish workers.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. P.K. Patil, Principal Scientist and SIC, ITMU and scientists of ICAR-CIBA, Mr. Pankaj Patil, Mr. K.P. Sandeep, Dr. Debasis De and Dr. P. Mahalakshmi were present during the function.
