ICAR-CIBA has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hindustan University of Technology and Science, Chennai to promote collaborative research on 27th April 2022. The MoU is signed to undertake / facilitate academic and research cooperation in the diverse fields of engineering, technology, applied, allied and life sciences applications in aquaculture.

Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, CIBA emphasized the significance of this collaborative research programme between a research and development institution and academic university in knowledge sharing, technology transfer and popularization of broad spectrum of techniques available in the Institute. He is optimistic that this collaboration would strengthen the biofloc based shrimp farming technology being popularized by CIBA.

Dr. K. Nandakumar, Director of Research on behalf of Hindustan University, stated that through this MoU we have planned to evaluate nano-sensors for sustainable intensification of different aquaculture systems like RAS and Biofloc based systems and synthesis of nanoparticles for targeted therapy and Protein/peptide characterization.

Dr. Puspamitra Panigrahi, Professor, Centre for clean energy and nano convergence (CENCON), Hindustan University, briefed about the ongoing research activities at their centre and explained about the potential areas of research under the collaboration.

Dr. A. Panigrahi, Principal Scientist and Team leader of this programme briefly explained about the significance of this MoU. He described that the presence of synthesis of nanoparticles for targeted therapy and characterization of proteins and various functionalized nanostructures for antimicrobial activities, development of nano-sensors for monitoring metabolites in different aquaculture systems like RAS and Biofloc based systems. The nanomaterial system in the Hindustan University helps to detect the level of toxic metabolites to some extent.

Dr. P.K. Patil, Principal Scientist, Officer in-Charge, ITMU, CIBA coordinated the programme and proposed vote of thanks.
