Twenty five B. F. Sc. students from College of fisheries, Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), Jharkhand State attended 10 days internship training on Brackishwater Aquaculture at the Kakdwip Research Centre of ICAR-CIBA during 16-25, April, 2022. The students were exposed to the farm, feed mill and hatchery facilities at the centre. The students were given hands-on training on conducting pond based research experiments at the farm.

Dr. Prem Kumar and Mrs. Babita Mandal Scientists from Finfish Culture Division taught them about the principles of aquaculture, candidate species of brackishwater and their culture, breeding, reproductive endocrinology etc. They were given hands on experience on live feed collection, enumeration, fish anatomy, reproductive biology, water quality parameters estimation etc. Student trainees were exposed to different reproductive biology techniques such as histopathology, microscopy, immunoassay, PAGE and western blotting.

Dr. T. K. Ghoshal and Dr. D. De briefed the students on the basics of fish nutrition, fish feed ingredients, and fish feed preparation, proximate analysis of feed and carcase.  Dr. Sanjoy Das and Dr. Leesa Priyadarshini Scientists in Aquatic Animal Health Division explained the students on different aspects of fish microbiology, principles of PCR and RT-PCR, identification of fish parasites and treatment of fish diseases.

The students visited to Namkhana fish landing centre, Kakdwip fish market to identify and collect different brackishwater fish and shell fish samples.

At the end of the training valedictory programme was organized and course completion certificate were distributed to the students. All the students expressed their satisfaction with the training and hands on experience received from CIBA. Dr. Stanzin Gawa, Assist professor, BAU, expressed their sincere thanks to Director CIBA, and KRC scientists for hosting the on-campus internship training for the students.
