ICAR-CIBA organized Special Swachhata Campaign on 26th October 2021 in Koovathur village of Chengalpattu district in Tamil Nadu. About 112 participants comprised of aqua farmers and farm women, fishers, school children and villagers have participated in the campaign. Dr. D. Deboral Vimala, Principal Scientist, SSD welcomed the gathering and highlighted in brief the importance of the programme. This was followed by an address by Dr. P. Mahalakshmi, Principal Scientist, and Nodal Officer of the campaign on purpose and details of Special Swacchta Campaign and role of CIBA in organizing the same in the MGMG villages. In his address, Dr. K.P. Jithendran Director, ICAR-CIBA stated that Government of India and ICAR has well-conceived the motto behind on one month Swachhata Campaign and implementing the same through the country during October 2021. He also emphasized the importance of cleanliness in various spheres of life for a healthy living. Dr. Jithendran further added that coastal water bodies need to be maintained well without pollution for realizing higher yield and income from aquaculture. He also distributed Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) seeds for farming, materials and accessories for implementation of Swachhta activities by the villagers. As a part of the campaign, the school children from the village gave scintillating speeches on importance and methods of maintaining cleanliness of self and the environment for a healthy living. Dr. C.V. Sairam, SIC, SSD proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. R. Geetha Sr. Scientist, SSD, Dr. N.S. Sudheer, Scientist, CCD, Shri. Dany Thomas Scientist, FCD have participated in the programme. Dr. D. Deboral Vimala and Dr. P. Mahalakshmi Principal scientists of the Social Science Division coordinated the event.
