ICAR- Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA), Chennai conducted a six-days training programme on ‘Recent Advances in Genetics and Biotechnological tools’ during 14th to 19th October 2019. Trainees representing different Universities of Kerala and Tamil Nadu attended the training. Dr. K. K Vijayan, Director, inaugurated the training programme and briefed on the current application of biotechnological tools and their future prospects in aquaculture. Further, he summarized the present and past research achievements of the Institute particularly on the progress of assembling whole genome sequence of Indian white shrimp using advanced biotechnological and bioinformatics tools. Dr.M.S. Shekhar, Scientist-in-Charge, explained the trainees on research activities of the division and the relevance of the course content to the current trends of research. The training programme was coordinated by a group of inter-disciplinary scientists. The valedictory session was conducted on 19th October 2019, Dr.S.V.Alavandi, Director-in-Charge, ICAR-CIBA, chaired the valedictory session. During valedictory session, the trainees gave their feedback and thereafter certificates were distributed to the trainees.
