ICAR- Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai signed an MOU with Shri. Suresh Babu and his associates from Ernakulam Dist., Kerala for technical partnership and assistance relating to developing innovative farm based polyculture model in brackishwater system on 27th August 2016 at CIBA, Chennai. Under the agreement, CIBA will partner with the farmer group in integrating hatchery and farming of suitable brackishwater species with the guidance in ensuring the use of the cost-effective quality seed, feed and health management. Interacting with the farmers, Dr.K.K.Vijayan Director has emphasised the importance of location-specific integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) model using candidate brackishwater finfish and shellfish on a sustainable and profitable mode. Dr.M.Kailasam, Principal Scientist, Head in-charge, Fish Culture Division has briefed the background of the proposal and stressed the need for farmers participation and partnership in developing profitable brackishwater farming. Mr Suresh Babau and his team members Mr Majeed and Mr Ajayakumar assured they are since support in the partnership and expressed their willingness to work with CIBA in the development of brackishwater aquaculture. Scientists from fish culture division and crustacean culture division, all the Heads/in charges of Divisions were also present on the occasion.

Initially, Dr.T.Ravisankar, Principal Scientist and SIC, ITM-ABI unit, welcomed the gathering and gave a brief about the MoU being signed, and Dr.P.K.Patil from ITM-ABI unit expressed the vote of thanks.
