ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai & Tamil Nadu Fisheries University, Nagappatinam joining hands for undertaking collaborative programmes in research, teaching, and extension in the areas of brackishwater aquaculture by signing a MoU on 25th September 2017 at CIBA Chennai. The mutual agreement was signed by the Dr K K Vijayan, Director, CIBA and Dr G. Jeyasekaran, Director of Research, TNFU in the presence of Dr S. Felix, Hon. Vice Chancellor of TNFU in an official meeting organised by CIBA.
Dr Vijayan in his opening remarks stressed the importance of convergence between CIBA and TNFU for the better utilisation of resources regarding manpower, expertise and funding. He also mentioned that in early eighties Tamil Nadu was leading in brackishwater aquaculture production, but now other states have taken over. To revive the production, CIBA technologies can be suitably identified for various locations in the state and TNFU can take measures to up-scale them through concerted efforts by involving CIBA as a working partner. Complementary efforts by CIBA and TNFU will undoubtedly lead to faster development of the sector in the state.
Dr S. Felix, Vice Chancellor, mentioned the day as a historic event both for TNFU and CIBA. He desired to have strong professional linkages in the fields of genetics, feed and disease management. TNFU will make necessary administrative and policy provisions for having a robust and efficient collaboration with CIBA in research, teaching and extension programmes. Laboratory and other infrastructural facilities available at CIBA was appreciated, and TNFU wanted to have meaningful collaboration with CIBA for mutual sharing the facilities of ICAR-CIBA and TNFU.
Later, Dr G Jeyasekaran Director of Research TNFU Nagappatinam briefly highlighted the primary objectives of the MoU and assured effective collaboration between TNFU and CIBA developing a roadmap for achieving the goals.
Earlier Dr T. Ravisankar, Officer-in-Charge ITMU welcomed the gathering, and the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr C.V. Sairam.
