The hatchery technology for Asian Seabass Seed Production developed by ICAR- Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture for the first time in India, has been commercialized to a private aquaculture entrepreneur. This indigenous technology is an import substitute for Asian seabass hatchery technology.

Asian seabass is emerging as one of the most valuable fish in the consumer point of view as the fish is considered a delicacy. The fish can be produced in brackishwater ponds, enclosures and cages and also in marine waters. The fish attains marketable size in 6-8 months and fetches a market price of Rs.400 to Rs. 500/Kg while the production cost is Rs. 200 to Rs. 225/kg. There is a huge potential for the culture of Asian seabass with great demand from the domestic and international market.

CIBA signed a Memorandum of Understanding under public-private partnership (PPP) mode with Golden Eye on 30th December 2017 at ICAR-CIBA, Chennai, with a payment of Rs. 5.00 lakhs and a royalty of 10%. The MoU was signed between the Director, CIBA and Mr. E. M. Senthil Kumar of Golden Eye in the presence of scientists of CIBA and the family members of Mr. E. M. Senthil Kumar.
