The national workshop on “Aquaculture Nutrition and Feed Technology” was inaugurated by the CEO, Shri Ramakanth V. Akula of The Waterbase Ltd., a leading shrimp feed manufacturer in India on 3rd January 2018 at ICAR – CIBA, Chennai. In his inaugural speech, he highlighted the importance of nutritional security for the growing Indian population and the scope of aquaculture in meeting the protein demand. He recorded his appreciation on the achievements of ICAR-CIBA in developing indigenous feed technologies and its subsequent commercialization for the benefit of brackishwater farmers in the country. Recording the participants representing across the nation from states such as Punjab, Haryana, U.P, Gujarat, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, he valued the interest shown by the young entrepreneurs in taking up aquaculture, the emerging sunrise industry in India. In his presidential address, Dr K.K Vijayan, Director, ICAR-CIBA stressed the need for joint ventures of research institutes and industries in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode in scaling up of the technologies for sustainable development of the sector and for increasing profitability of farmers using the desi technologies. Twenty participants comprising of farmers, technicians, academicians, research scholars, scientists and entrepreneurs across the country participated in this workshop. Earlier, Dr K. Ambasankar, Head, Nutrition section of ICAR-CIBA highlighted the content of the workshop and the meeting ended with the vote of thanks by Dr Debasis De, Principal Scientist.
