ICAR-CIBA provides need-based hands-on training as per the specific requirement of the client group on a request basis. In this line, CIBA has conducted a customized training program on “Water and Soil Treatment Applications in Aquaculture” during 27-28 August 2018 to a group of seven technical persons from Grasim Industries Ltd – Aditya Birla Group. The focus of the training was on the application of chemical and biological products in improving aquaculture pond water and soil environment. The trainees were given practical exposure to water and soil parameters for aquaculture, their optimum levels, interactions and their impacts on shrimp growth, biology of shrimp with special reference to hatchery and farming operations, guidelines of Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA) for sustainable aquaculture, water and soil treatments application particularly disinfectants, clarificants and mineral salts, and biosafety of chemical products. A training manual covering all the above aspects was prepared and given to participants. Dr.G.Gopikrishna, Principal Scientist and Head, Nutrition, Genetics and Biotechnology Division, inaugurated the programme. Dr.S.V.Alavandi, Principal Scientist and Head, Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Division, CIBA in his presidential address emphasized the importance of pond soil and water quality for successful aquaculture, and requirement of CAA certification due to the presence of a large number of products in the selector. 

During the valediction, the participants expressed their satisfaction, mentioned about the knowledge gained, willingness to come for further pieces of training and stated that their company wishes to have a MOU with CIBA for collaborative projects. Dr.G.Gopikrishna, Principal Scientist and Head, Nutrition, Genetics and Biotechnology Division distributed training certificates to trainees. The scientists of Environment Section: Dr.M.Muralidhar, Principal Scientist and Scientist-in-Charge, Dr.R.Sarawasthy, Principal Scientist, Dr N. Lalitha, Dr.P.Kumararja, Dr.Satheesha Avunje and Dr.Suvana Sukumaran, scientists conducted this customized training.
