ICAR-CIBA conducted a demand driven five day National workshop cum training programme on “Biofloc Technology for Nursery and Grow-out Aquaculture” from 12th to 16th March, 2019 at Chennai. The training programme was inaugurated on 12th March 2019 by Dr. A. K. Munirajan, Professor & Head, Department of Genetics, University of Madras, Chennai in the presence of Dr. S. V. Alavandi, Director-in-charge, ICAR-CIBA and Dr. Akshaya Panigrahi, Principal scientist and programme coordinator of the programme. A farmer friendly manual on “Biofloc based Nursery and Grow-out Shrimp Aquaculture” prepared of the programme was also released during the occasion. This five day programme included interactive sessions and hands-on practicals and a field trip to biofloc based farming facilities in Chennai and Nellore. The valedictory session of the programme held on 16th March, 2019 included a MoU signing between the trainee-farmer for transfer of CIBA’s BFT nursery technology with a consultation fee of one lakh fifty thousand. Dr. K. K. Vijayan, Director, ICAR-CIBA, in his presidential remarks highlighted the need for collaborative projects with stakeholders to scale-up such technologies. Dr. C. P Balasubramanian, Principal scientist and Head, Crustacean Culture Division, delivered the concluding remarks about the session.
