SCAFi lecture series at ICAR-CIBA is intended to provide understanding and debate on the issues of importance under ICAR research system and also to give futuristic perspectives on research and philosophical aspect of day to day life. Prof. Modayil opened up his talk on ‘Emotional Quotient and You’ citing the importance of balanced Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ) in with a balance in personal life and career. The anecdotes on the attributes to be acquired by citing the ‘Ant Philosophy’ and ‘Fish philosophy’ was very captivating. He carefully analysed the behavioural patterns of ants and fish and pointed out that the different traits like finding the way forward, thinking ahead, being positive, adaptability and co-existence etc., are some of the qualities that can be adopted in our routine. The concept of EQ pyramid and EQ matrix were introduced to the audience by the speaker. Prof. Modayil elucidated the concept of EQ pyramid by explaining the different layers of the pyramid with relevant examples, relating the career in ICAR itself. The growing concern of Attention Deficiency Trait (ADT), due to excessive use of technologies such as smartphone & social media and increasing detachment of individuals from the societal activities was also brought to limelight. He also addressed the management of emotions which was very beneficial. The Director of CIBA, Dr KK Vijayan, President of SCAFi, in his presidential remark, stressed upon the importance of institution building when one pursues the career. Talk elicited active discussion among the audience with scientist, staff and students.
