ICAR-CIBA Chennai, under the auspices of Society of Coastal Aquaculture and Fisheries (SCAFI) conducts an online monthly lecture series under the banner “Aquaculture without borders” delivered by global fisheries/aquaculture experts. Under this banner, Professor Giovanni M. Turchini, Head of School, School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences (SAFES) | Faculty of Science, The University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia delivered a lecture on the topic “Aquaculture in Australia” on August 18, 2023 at 11:30  AM. Dr. Turchini presented an overview of aquaculture systems and the major species currently being practiced in Australia. Apart from Asian seabass and shrimps, abalone and seaweed farming in Australia was explained in detail. Consumer acceptance, licensing and policy issues faced Australian Aquaculturists were explained by the speaker. The strong research and development setup of Australia was elaborated in relation to fisheries and aquaculture. Prof.Giovanni interacted with Scientists and scholars of ICAR-CIBA and answered the queries raised by them.

Dr.T. Ravisankar, Secretary, SCAFI welcomed the gathering. Dr. C.P. Balasubramanian, Head, Crustacean Culture Division & Director (i/c) welcomed the learned speaker and highlighted the importance of aquaculture in meeting the growing demand for animal protein.  Dr. K. Ambasankar introduced the speaker to the audience. Dr. Akshaya Panigrahi, Vice President, SCAFI proposed the vote of thanks.
