ICAR-CIBA, Chennai signed MoU with Agriculture Insurance Company of India (AICL) Limited, New Delhi for “Development of Aquaculture Insurance Solutions” on 20th March 2023 at the Maharashtra Sadan, New Delhi, in the august presence of Shri. Parshottam Rupala, Hon’ble Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. The minister mentioned that aquaculture is becoming increasingly important to provide food to a growing global population and societal development. “Aqua farmers are exposed to various risks, including disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and market volatility. Insurance can help to mitigate these risks and ensure long-term sustainability of the aquaculture industry” he emphasized. He expressed his happiness on ICAR-CIBA signing MoU with AICL and wished that this collaborative project should develop a sustainable comprehensive insurance product for aquaculture farmers as soon as possible. The MoU was signed by Ms.Girija Subramanian, Chairman and Managing Director, AICL and Dr.Kuldeep Kumar Lal, Director ICAR-CIBA, accompanied by team leader Dr.T.Ravisankar, Principal Scientist and Dr.P.K.Patil, Scientist-In-Charge, ITMU, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai.
