ICAR-CIBA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fish workers Welfare Federation of India (FISHFED India), Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra for technology transfer of CIBA-PlanktonPlus on 27.09.2022. CIBA-PlanktonPlus is a value added product developed from fish-waste using a unique technology under Swachh Bharat Mission. It is a micro and macro nutrient rich hydrolysate which enhances the natural productivity of the aquaculture systems by maintaining a healthy phytoplankton and zooplankton bloom during the culture period. FISHFED aims for the economic upliftment of the downtrodden fish workers by converting fish waste into value added products through CIBA-PlanktonPlus technology. Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, CIBA, highlighted the importance of this technology and complimented FISHFED for recognising the potential of CIBA in R&D backstopping in brackishwater aquaculture and coming forward to sign the MoU. Dr. Debasis De, Principal Scientist and team leader of this technology emphasized the benefit of the technology in keeping the environment clean as waste is getting converted into wealth. Shri. Jaideep Patil, National President of FISHFED India hoped that this technology transfer would facilitate towards enhancing the livelihood status of under-privileged and also improve the productivity of the aquaculture sector. Dr. P.K. Patil, Principal Scientist and Officer In-Charge of ITMU coordinated the event.
