CIBA scientists wins ICAR award for Outstanding Interdisciplinary Team Research in Agricultural and Allied Sciences led by Dr. B. Shanthi, Principal Scientist of Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai, by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on 29th July 2014. The team comprises of Dr. B. Shanthi, Dr. M. Krishnan, Dr. V.S. Chandrasekaran, Dr. C.P. Balasubramanian, Dr. K. Ambasankar, Dr. S. Kannappan. Dr. B. Shanthi along with her team initiated a project sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi, on “Diversification of Livelihoods among Women Self Help Groups through Coastal Aquaculture Technologies”. The technologies developed by the project team were transferred to the identified Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) in Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts and modified to suit the local ecosystem. The relative ease of these technologies and adaptability to the local environment facilitate the local women community to attain the state of economic independence.
