Navsari-Gujarat Research Centre of ICAR-CIBA conducted an interaction meet on ‘Aquaculture and allied technologies for livelihood development of tribal communities’ at Singod village, Navsari, Gujarat on 29th August 2021. Dr. Pravin Puthra, Assistant Director General (ADG, Marine Fisheries), ICAR was Chief Guest and inaugurated the interaction meet. Integrated Fish Farming System (IFFS) with cage culture of fishes in the village pond and horticulture, poultry farming and goat rearing on the periphery of the pond using the pond water was demonstrated by providing critical inputs and training. Apart from these, inputs and infrastructure for poultry, goat rearing and horticulture were also supplied and technical assistance was provided through the KVK and other line departments of Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), Navsari.

Shri. Kaushik Bhai Halpati, leader of the Self Help Group, Singod Halpati Samaj Yuva Matsya Udhyog Juth, highlighted that CIBA’s interventions improved their livelihood and thanked ICAR-CIBA for their technical support under the Scheduled Tribe Component. During the presidential address, Dr. Pravin Puthra appreciated the scientific team at NGRC for their efforts in livelihood upliftment of tribals and suggested that the site has the potential to develop into an aqua-tourism hub. He thanked the community members for their sincere efforts in development of a successful model in the village and wished such fisheries integrated models to spread across the state. He handed-over a cheque (Rs. 60,000) to beneficiaries against sale of fish and poultry and distributed inputs like life jackets, life bouys, tree saplings etc. Shri. Pankaj A. Patil, Shri.
