ICAR – CIBA Chennai conducted six days Training programme on “Recent advances in soil and water management in brackishwater aquaculture” conducted during 24 – 29 June, 2019. Dr K. K. Vijayan, Director, interacted with the trainees and advised them to utilize this opportunity effectively to learn about soil and water management practices for sustainable aquaculture especially the mineral addition based on the quality of source water and type of soil. He emphasised that it is important to understand the don’ts than do’s in case of soil and water quality management. Dr S.V.Alavandi, Head, Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Division, who inaugurated the training, emphasized the importance of soil and water parameters and their interaction on the occurrence of diseases in aquaculture. The six days training programme consisted of both theoretical as well as hands on learning of water and soil quality analysis methodology. Field visit was arranged to give an exposure to commercial shrimp farming and on-site determination of water and soil parameters were explained. Certificates were distributed to the participants and the feedback of trainees was recorded for further improvement. Dr M. Muralidhar, SIC, Environment Section and Convener of the training programme briefed about the overview of the training programme. Dr.R. Saraswathy, Principal Scientist, Dr.N.Lalitha, Dr. Kumar Raja, Dr. Suvana Sukumaran, Dr. Satheesha Avunje, Scientists and Dr. A.Nagavel, Chief Technical Officer Environment Section coordinated the programme.
