ICAR – Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA, Chennai) celebrated fifth international day of Yoga on 21st June 2019. As a prelude to International Yoga Day, a practical demonstration cum training programme on simplified yoga protocols was organized during 17-21 June 2019 at CIBA. During this training, Scientists, technical officers, administrative and support staff along with research scholars actively participated.  On the concluding day of the program on 21st June 2019,    Dr. K. Ambasankar, Principal Scientist and Nodal officer for yoga day, welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of yoga. Dr. K.K. Vijayan, Director, CIBA highlighted the significance of this yoga day and emphasized its relevance in today’s lifestyle. He further stressed that the international day of yoga should be considered as a new beginning in the daily lifestyle and not as a single day of celebration. Daily-basis practice of yoga as a habit will improve the health and fitness which in turn would pave the way for increased work efficiency in their careers. It was followed by a theory cum practical session of yoga by Yoga trainer from Government Yoga and Naturopathy Medical College, Ms. Janani Subburaj. She gave details on adopting yoga for better health and different types of yoga and highlighted the beneficial effects of yoga and emphasized the need to practice this regularly. The practical training session was started with yoga prayer and the entire common yoga protocol prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH has been practised with the help of demonstrator and the yoga teacher. All the participants felt the significance of this programme and evidenced keen interest to do yoga regularly. This yoga day was also celebrated at our Kakdwip regional centre of CIBA at West Bengal and Navsari Gujarat Research Centre of CIBA, Gujarat.
