ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA) in coordination with the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) Chennai conducted the webcasting of the launching ceremony of ”Pradhan Mandri Kisan Samman Nidhi ” Scheme at Madras Veterinary College, Vepery, Chennai on 24th February 2019. His Excellency Shri Banwarilal Purohit, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri. Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways and Coal, Government of India and Shri. Pon. Radha Krishnan, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping, Government of India graced the event and addressed the farmers. More than 250 farmers and officials from Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu participated in the event of web casting of launching ceremony of Pradhan Mandri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme originally held at Gorakpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Shri.Pon Radha Krishnan in his special address highlighted the importance of the government schemes in helping the farmers to meet out the expenditure on seeds and fertilizers there by increasing the productivity and profitability of farming. The Guest of Honour, Shri. Piyush Goyal, explained in detail about Prime Minister’s schemes extending the economic support for the farmers at grass root level. Under this programme, the small and marginal farmer families, having cultivable land up to 2 hectares are the beneficiaries. This income support will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of beneficiary farmers through the PM-KISAN portal.
His Excellency Shri Banwarilal Purohit Ji, Governor of Tamil Nadu in his Presidential address stated that “Farmers’ Welfare” is the primary goal of the Government’s Agricultural Policy wherein increasing the production, employment generation in agricultural sector and enhancing the income of farmers are important. To achieve this, the Government through concentrated efforts is trying to increase productivity, reduce cost, and prioritize crops with high value, reduce risks and make agriculture sustainable. His Excellency also wished success to all the farmers based on Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme.
Subsequently, Honourable Prime Minister’s Mann Ki Baat and the launching ceremony of Pradhan Mandri Kisan Nidhi Scheme was web telecasted live to the participants. Earlier Dr. C Balachandran Vice Chancellor, TANUVAS, Chennai welcomed the dignitaries, farmers and other officials. At the end, Dr K K Vijayan, Director, ICAR-CIBA Chennai proposed the Vote of Thanks.
