Dr J Raymond Jani Angel is a scientist in the Division of Nutrition Genetics and Biotechnology, ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai. He earned his PhD in Aquaculture from ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai. He served his initial three years of service in ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair where his research work was focused on cage culture of marine finfishes, seed production of marine ornamental fishes and documenting mangrove and ichthyo- faunal biodiversity of the remotely located Andaman and Nicobar group of Islands. His main research interests are applied to growth improvement of candidate brackishwater aquaculture species using molecular tools. Other research work includes molecular systematics of coastal decapod crustaceans especially shrimps of family Penaeidae and Palaemonidae. More recent research has focused on population genetic studies of commercially important brackishwater crustaceans and captive breeding of brackishwater finfishes.
