After obtaining Masters and M. Phil from University of Calicut and Ph.D. in Parasitology from ICAR - IVRI, in 1994, I joined ICAR - CIBA in 1999 and since then working on Fish and Shrimp Health Management. I have lead the research programme that contributed to broaden the knowledge base on diseases in shrimp, finfish and mud crab and development of molecular diagnostics and genomic characterization of betanodavirus causing viral nervous necrosis in marine fish aquaculture in India. I have played a lead role in the Regional proficiency testing programme in India in collaboration with NACA and CSIRO (Australia) for exotic diseases in fish and shrimp diagnosis in India during 2013. Currently I am working on shrimp microsporidian parasite Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei, its molecular characterization, mainly focusing on the mechanisms of its virulence, pathogenesis, host-parasite interaction and improved methods of detection and control.
- Epidemiology of animal diseases, pathophysiology, host-pathogen interactions and immune gene regulation during infection, Development of molecular detection assays, immunodiagnostics, and disease control through vaccines.
- Studies on molecular surveillance, phylogenetic studies on Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei in shrimp farming.
- Control of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei in shrimp farms using chemicals and biomolecules for prophylactic and therapeutics.
