A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between ICAR-CIBA (Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture) Chennai and Aquaculture & Biodiversity centre, Guwahati University, Assam for collaborative research, on 15th May 2024. Both the organizations entered into the present agreement for the purpose of pursuing collaborative research on aquaculture and for implementing the Development of Livelihood Business Incubators (LBI) for the youth and farmers of North East region of India under ASPIRE scheme of MSME, GoI. Dr. Dandadhar Sarma, Professor and Head, welcomed the gathering and detailed about the genesis and the importance of the MoU. The MoU was signed by Dr. Hemanth Kumar Nath, Registrar, Guwahati University and Dr. Kuldeep K. Lal, the Director of ICAR-CIBA. Director CIBA highlighted the significance of this MU and the consultancy services to be provided by CIBA in the areas of feed formulation and feed processing technology, value added product development from fish and the production of Plankton plus from fish waste. He also ascertained that these initiatives will help the farmers and entrepreneurs in developing and implementing this technology as a business model. Dr. Hemanth Kumar Nath, Registrar, Guwahati University highlighted the significance of the MoU and the achievements of the University and informed that this functional MoU wherein the research findings are to be translated into business opportunity to help the farmers and entrepreneurs in this part of India. The officials from Guwahati University and scientists from ICAR CIBA also attended the function. This MoU signing was followed by a meeting between the Vice Chancellor of the Guwahati University, Prof Pratap Jyoti Handique and Director CIBA, Dr. K.K. Lal on taking forward this MoU to catalyse the realistic changes in the aquaculture sector through leveraging the expertise , resources and innovation.
