ICAR-CIBA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s Sairam Group of Institutions, Chennai on 11th August 2022 for knowledge partnership for developing and validating of innovative Internet of Things (IOT) / Artificial Intelligence (AI) based monitoring system for smart aquaculture system. Dr. K. Porkumaran, Principal, Sairam Engineering College, Chennai and Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA signed the MoU.
In the meeting Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA highlighted the strength of Engineering discipline in developing industrial solutions for application in biological sciences and its imperative to have a knowledge-based growth on innovation. Dr. P. Mahalakshmi, Principal Scientist, Social Science Division and Team leader for the programme briefed about the significance of the MoU and implementation of IOT/AI innovative tools for shrimp and fish farms in the aquaculture sector. Indeed, autonomous underwater vehicle is highly useful in surveys, it moves faster and quietly, collecting data at a very high speed and as a result surveys are completed faster and with more precision she added.
Dr. K. Porkumaran, Principal, Sairam College of Institutions briefly narrated that Universities are aimed to increase broad set of inter-disciplinary innovative activities. He also stated that this agreement is a welcome step for academic with research institution since both the institutions will mutually benefit through knowledge sharing and can take up new joint research programmes also. Knowledge sharing serves as an important mechanism for aquaculture industry to open up new platform with a broader innovation for promoting smart aquaculture monitoring system. In addition, he also stressed that universities and research institutions are good carters of the innovation economy and such relationship creates a knowledge foundation for the next generation of solutions.
The event was coordinated by ITMU-ABI unit of ICAR-CIBA and the Social Science Division scientists. All HODs and SICs of various divisions of ICAR-CIBA participated in the event. Dr. P.K. Patil, OIC, ITMU and ABI coordinated the event.
