ICAR-CIBA organized a campaign on significance of shrimp and finfish farming for food, employment and prosperity on 5th August 2022 at Pattipulam village in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu. About 55 aqua-farmers, farm women and fishers have participated in the event. A field visit was organized for suitable pond identification for shrimp and finfish culture. Subsequently, an interface meeting was arranged wherein CIBA scientists interacted with participants on the prospects of undertaking brackishwater aquaculture with available water resources and identification of suitable candidate species. Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA directed this programme to be organized at Pattipulam village under SCSP scheme of ICAR. CIBA scientist’s team comprising of Dr. T. Bhuvaneswari, Scientist, AAHED, Dr. Aritra Bera, Scientist, FCD and Shri. R. Aravind, Scientist, CCD conducted the interface meeting in the presence of Dr. C.V. Sairam, Principal Scientist and Scientist-in-Charge, Social Sciences Division. Dr. T. Bhuvaneswari, Scientist, AAHED coordinated the programme.
In a related event ICAR-CIBA webcasted a webinar on ‘Nutritional significance of seafood’ organized by the Visakhapatnam Research Centre of ICAR-CIFT, in which about 62 scientists, research scholars and students have participated.
