ICAR-CIBA organized a special lecture on “ Participatory Mangrove Conservation and Management of Mangroves for Ecological and Livelihood security of the Coastal Communities” by Dr. R. Ramasubramanian, Head, Coastal Systems Research, MSSRF, Chennai as part of the National Campaign on Participatory Management for Sustainable Fisheries and Biodiversity Conservation  on 4th August 2022 under the umbrella of 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. About 92 participants including scientists, staff and scholars have attended this webinar organized in hybrid mode. Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA in his address highlighted the importance of conservation of oceanic resources and sustainable exploitation of the same. Dr. R. Ramasubramanian highlighted the importance of mangroves in the coastal ecosystem and explained the rejuvenation process of mangroves in the east and west coasts of India. Further, he also emphasized the importance of aquaculture in the mangrove ecosystem for improving the livelihood activities of the resource poor coastal communities. Earlier, Dr. M. Kailasam, Principal Scientist & Scientist-in-Charge, Finfish Culture Division, ICAR-CIBA welcomed the gathering, Dr. M. Makesh, Dr. R. Jeyakumar, Principal Scientists coordinated the programme and introduced the speaker respectively. At the end Dr. Artitra Bera, Scientist proposed the vote of thanks.

In a related programme in the forenoon of 4th August 2022, ICAR CIBA scientists and scholars viewed the webinar organized by ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow as part of the National Campaign on ‘Participatory Management for Sustainable Fisheries and Biodiversity Conservation’ on hybrid mode, in which 66 scientists and research scholars have participated.
