Third year B.F.Sc. students (28 boys and 31 girls) and two faculty members of Dr. MGR Fisheries College and Research Institute, Ponneri, Tiruvallur District of Tamil Nadu visited Muttukadu Experimental Station (MES) of ICAR-CIBA on 4th July 2022 as a part of the requirement of fulfilling their academic curriculum. The students observed the shellfish research and development initiatives of ICAR-CIBA. The students were also introduced to the crab and shrimp hatchery facilities at the MES of ICAR-CIBA. As part of the green environment initiative, the students planted tree saplings in the campus. Shri. K.P. Sandeep, Scientist, Nutrition, Genetics and Biotechnology Division and Scientist-in-Charge (SIC), MES gave a brief introduction about the experimental activities undertaken by the research station and the infrastructure facilities available at MES. Dr. D. Deboral Vimala, Principal Scientist, Social Sciences Division (SSD), highlighted the societal development programmes undertaken by the Institute for the welfare of the fish farmers and coastal fishers. Dr. Shyne Anand, Senior Scientist, Crustacean Culture Division (CCD) and S. Rajamanickam, Senior Technical Officer, CCD interacted with the students and explained about the shrimp and crab hatchery facilities and management techniques. The students later visited the feed mill and were briefed about the related activities by Dr. K.P. Kumaraguru vasagam, Principal Scientist, Nutrition, Genetics and Biotechnology division. The visit was coordinated by Dr. D. Deboral Vimala, PS, SSD and Shri. K.P. Sandeep, Scientist & SIC, MES.
