Night mode

An interaction meeting was organized with the people of Buddhapur village, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal on 1st February 2023 to assess the impact of changing climatic parameters and frequent cyclones on their livelihood activities so as to plan a suitable adaptation strategy by the Kakdwip Research Centre of CIBA.

Dr. C.V. Sairam, Principal Scientist & Scientist-in-Charge, Social Sciences Division of CIBA, Chennai interacted with them on different social aspects. He appreciated the on-going ornamental fish breeding and poultry farming initiative undertaken by the KRC and suggested alternative livelihoods like tailoring, net mending, disposable cup making, goat rearing etc. for the people especially women folk of the village.  He witnessed the SCSP farmer produced ornamental fish seed sale to a trader. He also suggested the plantation of areca nut tree around village under NICRA project.

Dr. Sanjoy Das, Acting head of KRC-CIBA interacted with the villagers and clarified their doubts on poultry farming. Dr. Prem Kumar, Senior Scientist, Fish Culture Division interacted with the farmers and narrated their role in ornamental fish seed production and integrated farming for their livelihood improvement. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. Prem Kumar, Senior Scientist under the guidance of Dr. M. Muralidhar, Principal scientist and Nodal Officer, NICRA.
