ICAR-CIBA Chennai, under the auspices of Society of Coastal Aquaculture and Fisheries (SCAFI) conducts monthly online lecture series under the banner ‘Aquaculture without borders’ delivered by fisheries and aquaculture experts from different countries. As a part of this, Dr. Sudheesh Ponnerassery, Project Leader (Aqua USA), Merck, USA delivered a special lecture on “Sustainable solutions for Aquaculture in the USA” on 25th January, 2023. Dr. Sudheesh, outlined the historical development of global aquaculture vis-à-vis trend in USA aquaculture. He highlighted the significance of aquaculture in meeting the quality protein to human beings in a sustainable way. The lecture highlighted the significance of recent developments in intensive aquaculture and the importance of health and nutrition. The potential and research requirement of various options for vaccine was explained in detail. He interacted online with the CIBA scientists and scholars and answered their queries and comments.
Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai emphasized the importance of this lecture considering the changing international scenario of aquaculture and advised the students for their active participation in similar programmes. Earlier, Dr. K. Ambasankar, Acting HoD NGBD, ICAR CIBA and Treasurer, SCAFI introduced the speaker and concluded the lecture with the vote of thanks.
