ICAR CIBA with the support of the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), Chennai organized ‘Learning through exposure and entertainment programme’ for the school children and farmers’ on 04.01.2023. About 50 students and two teachers from Santhome Higher Secondary School, Mylapore, Chennai and 65 farmers and farm women from coastal villages around Pulicat Lake participated in the daylong event.

In the forenoon session, the visitors had a ‘seeing is believing’ exposure in the experimental ponds, hatcheries and feed mill unit at Muttukadu Experimental Station of the institute and gained knowledge on CIBA’s technologies for brackishwater aquaculture. During the afternoon session at CIBA headquarters, a ‘folk puppetry show’ by Mr.Kalaivanan Bommalatam Arts Group, Tamil Nadu entertained the participants which highlighted the on fisheries based livelihood options for coastal families adopting self-help-group approach, climate change, biodiversity conservation and sustaining livelihoods and schemes available for livelihood security of Tribal and Scheduled communities.

Dr.Kuldeep Kumar Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA appreciated the content of the puppetry show which enlightened the students and villagers on attentive topics. He distributed publications to the students and conveyed his compliments. Mr. Gomraj and Mr. Nithyakumar from CPCL felicitated the participants and expressed their continued support for CIBA under their CSR funds. Dr.B.Shanthi, Principal Scientist, Social Sciences Division coordinated the event with the team of fellow scientists and research scholars.
