Society of Coastal Aquaculture and Fisheries (SCAFi) and Women Cell of ICAR-CIBA jointly conducted a special lecture on ‘Cancer disease awareness’ coinciding with the National Cancer Day and the birth anniversary of the Nobel laureate Madame Curie, a French-Polish Scientist, famous for her work in the field of radioactivity on 23rd November, 2022. Dr. V. Sridevi, a renowned Oncologist, currently working as Professor in Surgical Oncology at Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai presented the lecture in hybrid mode at ICAR-CIBA headquarters. In her talk she emphasized on the importance of early detection of cancer which could help in better treatment. She described the various types of cancer, treatments available and preventive measures. She also clarified the queries on cancer raised by the audience and cleared several myths related to the disease. Dr. Kuldeep K. Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA in his opening remarks emphasized the relevance of the programme and stated that awareness and early detection as the first important step in the fight against cancer. Dr. Sherly Tomy, Chairperson of Women Cell and coordinator of the event briefed the aim of the National Cancer Day and awareness programme initiated by Govt. of India since September 2014. The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Akshaya Panigrahi, Principal Scientist & Vice-President, SCAFi.
