During 2021-22, ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA), Chennai under the Tribal STC and SCSP schemes initiated technological interventions viz., ‘Diversification of livelihoods among coastal tribal groups through brackishwater aquaculture technologies’ integrated with agro-based technologies for the Irular Tribal Groups and Scheduled Caste Families in Pulicat region of Tiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu. On 30th September 2022, ICAR-CIBA organised field programmes in the project villages viz., distribution of seabass fish sales money of Rs. 90,000, terrace garden and crab harvest mela to the Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries, inauguration of crab farming (in pen) and poultry unit, crab stocking (in pens), distribution of crab sales money of Rs. 30,000 to the project beneficiaries and inauguration of terrace garden for Scheduled Caste beneficiaries. Dr. B. Shanthi, Principal Scientist, Social Sciences Division and the Project leader SCSP Scheme & STC Component, convened these interventions. Dr. C.V. Sairam, Principal Scientist & Scientist In-charge, Social Sciences Division, Dr. T. Senthil Murugan, Principal Scientist, Fish Culture Division, Dr. P. Mahalakshmi, Principal Scientist, Social Sciences Division and Nodal Officer, STC Component, Village Panchayat Leaders, Ward Members and about 30 ST and SC beneficiaries participated.
