ICAR-CIBA conducted a six-day hands-on training programme on “Recent Advances in Diagnosis and Management of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) in Brackishwater Shrimp Aquaculture” from 26th September to 1st October 2022. The training programme was organized with the goal of improving the technical skills on EHP diagnosis and management among various stakeholders. There were 11 participants from various states representing academia, aquaculture, diagnostic centres, and aquaculture consultants. Technical sessions on various aspects of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei, including biology, pathobiology, transmission, and management in farms and hatcheries were delivered by the concerned scientists. Skill development training in the diagnosis of EHP using microscopy, including scanning and florescent microscopy, PCR, Real-time PCR, LAMP, and ISH techniques, was covered in depth during the training course. In the valedictory programme, Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, expressed his concern about the high rate of incidence of EHP in Indian shrimp farms. Further, he also highlighted the value of ring tests and the need for skill improvement in EHP disease diagnosis. Dr. Jithendran cautioned the individuals to be aware of forged certifications claiming pathogen-free shrimp larvae. Later the participants shared their thoughts and experiences about the training programme in which they expressed their high level of satisfaction. Dr. R. Anandaraja, Senior Scientist, AAHED proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. M. Poornima, Principal Scientist, Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Division coordinated the training programme.
