As part of the monthly lecture series under the banner “Aquaculture without borders”  being conducted by ICAR-CIBA, Chennai and the Society of Coastal Aquaculture and Fisheries (SCAFi), Dr. Azad Ismail Saheb, Research Scientist, Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research (KISR), Kuwait delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Aquaculture in Kuwait’ on October 14, 2022. Dr. Akshaya Panigrahi, Vice President, SCAFi introduced the speaker to the audience. Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai and President, SCAFi welcomed the speaker and recounted reminiscences of working together with the speaker in the institute. Dr. Azad presented an overview of status of aquaculture systems and species currently in culture practice in Kuwait. He highlighted the technologies of Recirculatory Aquaculture System, Biofloc and Hydroponics and Integrated Multi Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) systems as practiced in Kuwait. As in many countries globally, capture fisheries is stagnant in Gulf Countries Council (GCC) states. He also discussed about the development of agricultural technologies under desert conditions of Kuwait using desert springs. Dr. Azad also outlined the regulatory framework of Kuwait for aquaculture development. He enumerated the policy issues and constraints faced in the development of aquaculture in Kuwait. Later, the participants interacted with the speaker about details of cultured species, feed and health aspects of aquaculture in Kuwait. Earlier, Dr. T. Ravisankar, Secretary, SCAFi welcomed the gathering and introduced the speaker. The meeting concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. K. Ambasankar, Treasurer, SCAFi.
